The 10 Best Restaurants in Canggu

1. The Avocado Factory

As a California girl, I’m a sucker for all things avocado. So when I returned to town and found out The Avocado Factory had made its debut in Canggu, I just had to try it!

Everything on the food menu here features avocado in some sort of fashion, like the B.E.A. (Bacon Egg and Avocado) brioche sandwich, the Hummus Toast with avo hummus, and the indulgent Avocado Pancake topped with avocado, fruit, gelato, and maple syrup. I personally love the Classic Benedict with poached eggs, spinach, and avo!

The focus is on breakfast, brunch, and lunch, but head here for dinner and you’ll find creative avocado-inspired dishes. Think Skirt Steak with avocado bearnaise and Pistachio Pesto Spaghetti with creamy avocado.

Of course, not all the drinks include avocado but you will find some surprises on the drinks menu too!

2. The Shady Shack

The Shady Shack will always be considered one of the best Canggu restaurants. But I’m far from alone in thinking that, so as with a lot of places on this list, expect things to be busy during peak times.

The Shady Shack serves up a long list of vegan and vegetarian entrees all day long, including beautiful smoothie bowls and all-day breakfast items.

My personal favorite lunch items are the veggie-packed bowls, specifically the Nori Bowl (pictured above) and the Haloumi Bowl. But depending on what you’re in the mood for, you’ll also find things like Jackfruit Tacos and a lemongrass tofu Better Banh Mi on the menu.

For dinner, you can choose from a range of vegan and vegetarian burgers, Mexican dishes, bowls, and more creative concoctions!

3. Koloni

When it comes to the best Canggu restaurants for healthy eats, Koloni is one of my go-to places. As they put it, this place is all about serving up “California cuisine marinated in Bali.” The menu here caters to vegans, vegetarians, and carnivores, so there’s something for everyone.

They have all-day breakfast fare from 8 am to 4 pm, with items like the Shakshuka, Mango Oatmeal Bowl, and When Eggs Meet Haloumi. Arrive from noon to 10 pm, and you can choose from mains like the California Maki Roll Bowl, Beef Rendang Tacos, and a beautifully presented Nasi Campur (pictured above).

4. Warung Bu Mi

If you’re looking for the best restaurants in Canggu for budget eats, you’ll probably want to eat at Warung Bu Mi more than a few times. Located a short drive from Batu Balong Beach, this is a great place to fill up before or after visiting this beach.

This is a no-frills nasi campur joint, so expect a wide selection of traditional Indonesian dishes laid out buffet-style. You’ll want to load your plate with rice and then choose small portions of whichever dishes strike your fancy.

You’ll find a variety of vegan, vegetarian, meat, and seafood dishes at Warung Bu Mi. And if you’re into spicy food, don’t forget to ask for a dollop of sambal!

5. Burgreens

I’ve been going to Burgreens since back in the day when they started as a single branch in Jakarta. And I’ve always loved their vegan food and their mission of environmental sustainability. These days, they have multiple branches in Indonesia, including Canggu!

Expect a menu full of plant-based Western and Indonesian-inspired comfort food. For a veganized taste of local dishes, you can try the Vegan Rendang Bowl, Vegan Soto Mie, or the Balinese Satay Platter. Or for more Westernized fare, why not go for the Tempe Parmigiana, the Beefless Cheeze Burger, or the all-day Fried Chick’n & Waffles?

If you’re in the mood for something light, they have superfood smoothies, fair-trade coffee drinks, and kombucha teas on the menu as well.

6. Crate Cafe

Crate Cafe is a longtime local favorite and one of the best restaurants in Canggu if you’re craving breakfast or lunch with a seriously good cup of coffee.

The drinks menu features smoothies, juices, and some of the best coffee in town. But for something more substantial, they offer really good smoothie bowls, “super bowls,” and toasties.

Their breakfast menu is served all day, which is always a much-appreciated perk. You can go vegan with the Cratezy vegan pancakes, keep it gluten-free with The Rico ricotta crepes, or get your bacon and egg fix with the Brekkie Plate.

And don’t forget to order up a Crate Cold Brew!

7. Ithaka Warung

Ithaka Warung is one of the most popular places to eat in Canguu for a more upscale warung experience. You’ll find a variety of Indonesian and Balinese staples on the menu, as well as some Western options, all beautifully presented with their signature wood plates and bowls.

You can choose from basics like gado gado, nasi goreng, and cap cay or get a little more adventurous with their spicy curries, Western fusion dishes, or build-your-own sandwiches. This place is super dog-friendly too and you can even order something for your pup off of the dog menu!

8. Ruko Cafe

If you’re looking for the best places to eat in Canguu for all-day breakfast, I cannot recommend Ruko Cafe enough. This place is popular but small, so don’t be surprised if you need to wait a while.

Like many Canggu restaurants, you’ll find excellent smoothies, juices, and coffee drinks on the menu. But if you’re looking to fill up for breakfast you’ll have hearty options like the Pulled Pork Benedict, Brioche French Toast, Avocado Smash, and Pitaya Smoothie Bowl.

They also have intriguing lunch options including the Southern Fried Chicken Burger, Falafel & Feta Cheese Wrap, and Plant Power Protein Salad.

9. Nüde Cafe

As Nüde Cafe puts it, “Getting Nüde Is Always A Good Idea” and I have to agree. This massive cafe is a great place to bring your laptop, order a latte, and get a little work done as you wait for your food.

If you want to keep things healthy, try one of the smoothie bowls, overloaded salads, or flatbread wraps – and don’t forget to order a shot of Jamu Tonic.

But if you’re in the mood to indulge, the menu features items like a pulled pork-filled Breakfast Burrito for the carnivores, a chickpea patty Vegan Burger for the vegan-inclined, a Halloumi & Avocado Bun for the vegetarians, and a smoked salmon Nüde Eggs Benedict for the gluten-free peeps.

10. Taco Casa

Taco Casa is one of the best restaurants in Canggu if you’ve got a craving for Mexican. As a California native always in need of a Mexican fix, I always eat here multiple times when I’m in Canggu.

From burritos, tacos, and quesadillas to nachos, fajitas, and enchiladas, you’ll find all the usual suspects here. Most dishes offer the option of veggie, chicken, carne asada, or shrimp, so there are tons of vegetarian options.

This is always a great place for dinner and drinks after a day at the beach. If you’re feeling spicy, try the Jalapeño Margarita, but if you don’t feel like imbibing, they have a refreshing selection of mocktails too.
